Description

Oil on canvas. Signed lower right. Scene of popular life, set inside a courtyard where a horse-drawn cart is stopped, on which two children play, while the father takes care of two other animals and a woman sits outside the door. The artist from Trieste, Riccardo Tosti, has been nicknamed "the painter of the sun" for his mastery in creating light effects through the contrast between light and shadow. The work is presented in a gilded frame, with missing corners. In his production, he shows an absolute predilection for the genre scene of a popular and anecdotal nature: in his works, in fact, he immortalizes the calm and quiet existence of his fellow citizens, in a decidedly frank narration of realist taste.
