Description : Madonna orante

Oil on metal plate. Copy of the Madonna del Sassoferrato indicated on the back. Giovanni Battista Salvi, known as Sassoferrato (born in 1609, died in Rome in 1685) was characterized by the production of multiple versions of the praying Madonna, depicted in an act of interior recollection, her hands clasped, her gaze downwards, as in this reproduction. His production was widely copied and revived over the centuries. The work is presented in a contemporary frame.
