Oil on canvas. Signed lower left. Ermocrate Bucchi, a painter from Urbino who moved to Milan, established himself as a specialist in flowers, mostly in watercolour. His favourite subjects, flowers, appear in this oil painting, but in a very particular context: cut flowers of different types and colours are scattered on a staircase from which a newlywed couple is descending....of which only the bride's shoes and the hem of her white dress appear! The composition is particular and original, and shows the artist's mastery in reproducing flowers. The painting is presented in a period frame.
