Description : Pastore con pecore

Oil on canvas. In a hilly landscape, a shepherd sits in the foreground on a rock near a river, watching over his flock of sheep and goats, which are resting at his side, while the sheepdog, on the right, quenches its thirst in a puddle of water. The pictorial reference is that of Philipp Peter Roos, known as "Rosa da Tivoli", who inspired countless artists for these pleasant compositions: originally from Frankfurt but later moved to Rome, where he remained until his death, this artist was very active above all as a painter of animals, portrayed in the foreground against landscape backgrounds and executed with rich color and intense light effects. Restored and relined, the painting is presented in an antique re-lacquered frame.
