Description : Deposizione di Cristo
Oil on canvas. The scene of the deposition of Christ from the Cross, sees the lifeless body of Jesus at the center of the scene, supported by two men who accompany him in the arms of a pious woman, while on the left in the background, two disciples assist, presumably John, the youngest, and Peter who holds the crown of thorns in his hand. At the feet of Jesus there is also Mary who, kneeling, turns her gaze towards the face of her Son, whose dull eyes, however, cannot return. Alongside the human figures are various angels, some in the guise of archangels to support the body, other winged cherubs circling in the heavens. The interweaving of the figures expresses the intense earthly and spiritual participation in the dramatic event, charging it with pathos. Among the colors of the scene, the red of the clothes stands out, the color of suffering, of pain, which surrounds the lifeless body of Christ, although above Him an intense light is already tearing the heavens above the Crosses of Golgotha. Restored and relined, the painting is presented with a slat frame.
