Description : Ritratto femminile

Oil on canvas. Signed and dated lower left. The young woman, dressed in white, is portrayed outdoors, sitting on a flowery meadow overlooking a sea coast, with the sky and sea blending into a chromatic uniformity of dark blue, against which the whiteness of the white dress stands out. Alphonse Monchablon was an important 19th-century French portraitist, who depicted several important historical figures. In this portrait of an unknown girl, Monchablon departs from the academic approach of formal official portraits, to give a more poetic connotation to the sweet and melancholic figure. The painting has been restored. It is presented in a contemporary frame, with floral decoration.
