Oil on canvas. On the back is an ink inscription with the attribution and, at the bottom, a description of the work (difficult to read). The painting depicts a young woman in a pose of prayer or supplication, her hands clasped and her melancholy gaze turned upward. Despite her attitude of spiritual recollection, the painter highlights the girl's beauty, beautifully capturing the details of her loose hair, her face, and her hands through a skillful use of soft colors and light. Paolina Pagnoncelli trained and worked in Bergamo, her hometown, alongside her sister Isabella, achieving great success, especially as a portraitist and producing religious subjects. The rectangular canvas is presented in a late 19th-century oval frame.
