Description
Engraved pewter with copper insets and multilobulated, decorated border on brim with the eight Buddhist treasures interspersed with floral decorations; Central decor with dragons chasing flaming Pearl and scenes of marine life. According to Chinese legend, the carp (as the two under the Dragon right) for their perseverance are sometimes transformed into dragons. A similar technique and use of materials is present in the collections of the Victoria Albert Museum of London &, cataloged with the number 1454-1903, and is published in the book "ENCOUNTERS: THE MEETING OF ASIA AND EUROPE 1500-1800" on page 346.
