Description
Oil on canvas. The Angel, represented in the Act of turning a plate and with a jug at his feet, was part of a larger composition and his gesture may suggest a central blade with Christ comforted by angels. The author certainly makes reference to the production of Pier Francesco Mazzucchelli said il Morazzone (1573-1626), in whose name the painting was already attributed in ancient times (as in the title block to the back). However, if the subject is the production of Morazzone-and suffice in this confrontation with the Angel left in "the forge of Vulcan" preserved at the Museo d'Arte antica del Castello Sforzesco, identical by-the pictorial quality and colours is not sufficient to allocate production to the master, shifting the autograph rather his imitator. The painting has been restored probably the early ' 900, with reintelo; occurred in antique picture frame, as amended at two corners to fit the new dimensions, and covered the back from the modern reinforcement.
