Serigraph by Françoise Gilot 20th Century

Venice

Serigraph on paper. In the bottom right corner there are the signature of the author and the printing house monogram "LN" in relief. In the bottom left corner there is the series number, 70/100. Born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Françoise Gilot posed as a model for various artists among which Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso (in his painting Joie de Vivre for example). She was Picasso's muse and companion between 1943 and 1953. They had two children: Paloma and Claude. She married three times: his latest husband was John Salk, father of the polio vaccine. She was a painter, a writer, a critic, costume designer, scenographer and worked on museum layouts (she worked with the Guggenheim of New York). She was influenced by Cubism and Picasso in her earlier production, she then moved on to a more figurative style . This serigraph is dominated by a big vase of sunflowers, in the bottom right corner there is a gondola which is a reference to the title of the artwork, Venice. It is presented in an adapted antique frame.

ARTCON0000789
Litograph by Enrico Baj 20th Century

Without title

Colored litograph on paper. It is signed in the bottom right corner and numbered 39/100 in the bottom left corner. Enrico Baj was born in Milan in 1924. He was a painter, sculptor and essayist; he was an important figure in 1950's-1960's cultural scene along with Fontana, Manzoni, and Klein. Baj joined a number of artistic movements which were crucial in the 20th century: Nouveau Réalisme, Surrealism, Pataphysics, the Nuclear Movement. His artistic choices tell a lot about his personality and his ability to analyse reality right down to the details. He developed a personal, pessimistic interpretation of the world. He often portrays fashion as a degenerate form of art, he also insists on technological progess which seems to be beyond our control, dominating our lives, turning people into robots, in a world where form prevails on substance. In frame.
