Painting Jesus and the Magdalene

Painting Jesus and the Magdalene

ARARPI0194234
Painting Jesus and the Magdalene

Oil painting on canvas. Italian school of the seventeenth century. The scene depicts Jesus, who has just risen, appearing to the Magdalene, who has come to anoint his body at the tomb. Jesus holds the spade in one hand, because he is initially mistaken for a gardener by the woman; between the two figures, on the ground, the rich alabaster jar containing the ointments for the burial. This scene is also entitled "Noli me tangere" from the phrase which, according to the translation of the Vulgate of the Gospel of John, Jesus said to the Magdalene, when he made himself known: the meaning would not be so much "Don't touch me", but rather "Don't touch me" hold back". In the construction of the scene and in the colors of the characters, the painting recalls the homonymous work by Pietro da Cortona (1596 -1669), albeit with several differences. The subject was also widely reproduced in painting and inspired many painters. The painting has been restored and relined.

Ancient Painting Holy Family Oil on Canvas Framed XIX Century

Oil painting on canvas. The Holy Family is depicted with Mary and Joseph who, converging one hundredth with their heads close together, frame the Child Jesus, intent on playing with a lamb, the iconographic symbol of the sacrificial victim, therefore a prelude to the Passion, together with the small Cross that the child holds in one hand. The inscription anno 1845 appears at the top right, an indication of the period probably added during the subsequent restoration phase. In fact, the work has been restored and relined. It is presented in a stylish frame.

Glimpse of a Barn

Oil on wooden hardboard. Signed lower left. The farmyard of a farmhouse, where hens scratch around in the shade of a large leafy oak, is rendered in the characteristic pictorial style of Leonardo Bazzaro, who uses quick and broad brushstrokes, with soft outlines, to create an enveloping atmosphere of peaceful everyday life. Milanese by birth and training, Leonardo Bazzaro is considered a lively exponent of Lombard impressionism, dedicated to chromatic and luministic research. His very fruitful production of works was dedicated in the early years to Milanese interiors, but then attracted by open-air painting, he moved to landscape views and in particular he was attracted by the color of the Venetian lagoon, which led him to stay for a certain period in Chioggia. The painting is presented in a coeval frame.

Oil painting on canvas. English school of the late 1800s - early 1900s. Unidentified signature at the bottom almost in the center (J. Sanders?) 'Odin A Bloodhound'

Oil painting on canvas. English school late 1800s - early 1900s. It is a copy of the 1873 graphic preserved in the British Museum in London, and derived from a work by Sir Edwin Landseer (1802 -1873), an English painter and sculptor of the Victorian era known for his paintings of fairies and his scenes with animals. Of the dog, a hound as the English name bloodhound suggests, the head and shoulders are depicted, turned to the right, with eyes raised to look at the master. The painting is presented in a coeval frame, with numerous shortcomings.

Large Tapestry painted with Babirusa
ARARNO0176744

Large Tapestry painted with Babirusa

ARARNO0176744
Large Tapestry painted with Babirusa

Oil painting on canvas. The large canvas depicts a pig whose physiognomic characteristics refer to the Babirusa, the characteristic swine from Indonesia characterized by as many as four tusks, larger than those of any other swine, and by a slightly bristly coat. The vegetation around is the luxuriant one of the tropical islands, the natural and unique habitat of this animal. As well as its brother boar, the Babirusa has often been the subject of painting: in all cultures and in all ages, these pigs have been considered sacred animals or animals with a strong symbolic value, representatives of energy, wild ferocity and indomitable courage, but also in the medieval tradition, with a negative meaning, linked to original sin, lust, carnality and bestiality. The canvas has several drops of color and a tear at the top right, and was previously mounted on a stretcher, as evident from the signs along the entire outline.
