Description : Ritratto di Catherine-Marie Legendre
Oil painting on canvas. The portrait of a young woman refers to the work of Jean-Baptiste Santerre, especially for the delicate treatment of her face, the gorgeous smooth skin with sensual rose-colored shades. The pictorial quality also includes the character identification in Catherine-Marie Legendre (dead in 1749), wife of Claude Pecoil Villedieu and aunt of Thomas de Collandres, merchant of the old Régime made noble directly by the king. It is in the Parisian environment around the Royal Academy that Santerre operated, distinguishing himself as a history painter and portrait painter. The painting, restored, is presented in a 18th century frame, from which stucco and gilding were removed.
