Oil painting on canvas. Signature and date in the lower right corner. Stamp belonging to the art gallery 'Il Vertice' in Milan on the back. Renato Vernizzi was born in Parma where he studied at the art academy. From 1930 he moved to Milan. He exhibited his paintings both in Italy and abroad winning many awards. Vernizzi was able to capture the reality of life with a delicate discretion permeating the real scene with a touch of magic. This painting shows an effective simplicity typical of the artist's production: a woman by bicycle is about to cross a wide empty road bordered by a clearing. Vernizzi's attention is directed at the chromatic values. The figures and elements of the landscape are almost shaded while the chromatic effect of some brighter details stand out - the blue and pink blouses worn by the figures, the red bag hung on the wall - in a setting characterized by soft and delicate nuanced colors. The painting is presented in coeval frame. 20th century.
