Sergi Barnils, Catalan artist born in Equatorial Guinea in 1954, lives in Barcelona and works in Sant Cugat del Vallès. His works are highly appreciated by the public and critics, known not only in Spain, but also in Germany and Italy where they have been distributed since 1995. After a long apprenticeship in which he confronted the major currents of contemporary art (from Impressionists to Cézanne, from Masson to abstract art), Barnils arrived at a very personal synthesis of a high intellectual level, between the colors and suggestions of the Catalan tradition and a primordial painting full of penetrating signs and soft visions. The initial love for the landscape left the descriptive ways of representation to become pure spatial synthesis through a subtle and incisive stroke. The drawing dialogues with the painting, the geometry is combined with the stratifications of the material, and the images, however abstract they are, are linked to the becoming of life and express the search for joy and beauty. Barnils conceives his works as a complete reflective matter of the human condition. The work is framed, with some shortcomings.
