Description : Cristo Salvator mundi
Oil painting on canvas. 17th century Flemish school. The painting refers to the same subject created by Anthony Van Dick (1599-1641), now preserved in the State Art Collection of Dresden, and replicated several times, within his school as well as by other artists. Christ, depicted in this work as still a child, rests a golden cross on a globe to symbolize that it will be salvation for the world; the little foot tramples a serpent, symbol of Satan, defeated by Him. The figure of Jesus is draped in a red cloak, symbol of the saving Passion. The painting is presented in a period frame.
