Description : Sibilla
Oil on canvas. The painting has been attributed to the production of Giovanni Antonio Burrini, a Modenese painter considered one of the promoters of the pictorial renewal of his city, thanks to the introduction of the Baroque and late Baroque renewal. In his production, portraits of historical-mythological female figures recur, always depicted half-length, as in this painting in which a young beautiful woman is depicted, half-length and turned to look to her right, dressed in rich clothes and adorned with jewels, and with her head covered by a turban, which refers to an oriental context. Historically recorded as "Sibyl", in reality the subject of the painting does not correspond to the traditional iconographic representation of the legendary prophetess, because she holds a bag, of money or jewels, in her hands. The painting has been restored and relined. It is presented in a regilded frame from the early 1900s.
