Description
Watercolour on cardboard of Moses. Signed lower left. The opera, which depicts Flora supported by a dense cloud and surrounded by cherubs is preparatory watercolour of fresco executed by Moses Baker in the music room of Villa Giovanelli, of Lonigo (VI), in 1877. An oil sketch of a similar subject is present in the collection of the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, and is characterized, like ours, from a quick painting and strong contrasts. There is a later version, dated 1890, oil on canvas, apparent resumption of the subject with more blurred and less precise realism of the early versions, esitata Porro Milan auction No. 30 dated 10/24/2006 and awarded a 12,000 euro .00. The work comes from historical and important private collection of the family F.P. of Bergamo; is presented in customized frame mounted in 30 's or so.
