Description
Oil on board. In the iconography of the imago pietatis, the unnatural position of the dead Christ in the tomb was probably inspired by the Holy Shroud exposed in the twelfth century at Constantinople. This picture is also called "icon of the bridegroom", where the dead Christ standing in the tomb is the groom on the wood of the cross raised the new humanity, the Church, represented by Maria.
