Ancient Painting '600 Return from the Hunting Oil on Canvas

The Return from the Hunt

Oil on canvas applied to the table. Northern European school of the XVII-XVIII century. On the back there is an ancient attribution to Peter Wouwerman (1623 -1682), justified by the closeness to the pictorial methods of the Flemish artist, very attentive to the rendering of minute details. This painting depicts the return of a gentleman from hunting to his palace on the left side: while the horses are taken to rest and the dogs are watering at the fountain, a servant helps the master to remove his high boots, while the women leave the house to accommodate hunters. The painting is presented in a late 19th century frame.

Ritratto muliebre

Oil painting on canvas. Signed lower right. On the back there is a label from the Manzoni art gallery in Milan, with the title of the work. The Venetian Giacomo Favretto established himself as the best narrator of the popular everyday life of the lagoon. He loved to represent scenes of everyday life taken from the popular neighborhoods of Venice, which he knew well as coming from a lower class family. Here Favretto proposes the portrait of a no longer young middle-class lady, dignified in her severe dress but embellished with lace and some jewels. Small drop of color in the centre. The painting is presented in a coeval frame.

ARARPI0206743
Ancient Paintings '800 Shepherds Oil on Paper Applied to Canvas

Oil on paper applied to canvas. The four works propose pastoral subjects, animated by shepherds with their herds and their faithful dogs, sometimes at rest on the side of the road, in two scenes also flanked by fruit sellers. The works are inspired (as well as by the citation on the back of one of them) by the production of Francesco Londonio, the Milanese artist of the 18th century who made a name for himself for his rural and pastoral scenes, in a repertoire of tasty snapshots of peasant life. The four paintings are presented in contemporary gilded frames, with small defects.

Portrait of a Young Woman

Oil painting on canvas. Signed lower right. The Neapolitan painter Domenico Morelli, after an initial academic pictorial phase, following contact with the Macchiaioli and friendship with Filippo and Giuseppe Palizzi, gradually came to assume a freer style, especially in the use of color, creating his own style staff that harmoniously combines realism and late romanticism with neo-seventeenth-century models. An active patriot, he painted from historical subjects to genre scenes, tried his hand at Orientalism and then moved on to religious painting. There is no shortage of portraits in his production, especially female ones, pervaded by intense introspective expressiveness. The work is presented in a period frame.

Mémoire écologique 1974

Acrylic on canvas. On the back present the signature, the title and the date of the work. Painter of Neapolitan origin but lived in Paris, Guido Biasi elaborated a particular figurative painting, in which he recovered images of memory or of the past to propose a revisited and ironic reflection of it. From the period 1973-75 is the series of Mémoires écologiques, based on the duplicity between psychic, i.e. subjective, memory and historical memory. The work is presented in a frame.

ARARNO0212454
Painting by Felice Giordano

Calle in Venice

Oil painting on canvas. Signed lower right. The Neapolitan artist Felice Giordano established himself as a landscape painter and in particular for the glimpses of his beloved Capri, the island where he lived all his life, but he also dedicated himself to marine still lifes, with fish, mussels, octopuses, and glimpses of Naples. Moreover, Giordano traveled a lot, and also portrayed the places of his travels, often including Venice and Paris. Trained at the school of Antonino Leto (also a lover of Capri!), he inspired his realism made up of plays of light and colour. In this Venetian foreshortening the effect of the reflections in the water of the sky and houses stands out, in plays of light rendered through broad and overlapping brushstrokes. The work is presented in a frame.

Large Portrait of a Lady 1928

ARTNOV0001825
Hannibal Scaronni

Large Portrait of a Lady 1928

Oil painting on canvas. Signed and dated lower left. A pupil of the Moretto Art School in Brescia, hometown where he worked until 1928, then moving to Milan, Scaroni developed a painting that reveals an impressionist imprint, especially in the early years, then assuming a less nuanced connotation. His production includes several portraits, including that of Alfredo Carozzi, benefactor of the Ospedale Maggiore in Milan; but the landscape production is also numerous, with glimpses of the Lombard valleys known to him. In the proposed painting, the woman portrayed stands out for her strong personality, underlined by her confident pose and her proud yet smiling gaze, by her clothing that is bold in colors and style; particular the rendering of the play of shadows, with that of the woman who then fades into the background. The painting is mounted on a frame of inadequate size, with consequent detachment from it and the canvas coming out of the frame.
