Female portrait

Pastels on cardboard. signed lower left. The Ticino painter and illustrator Luigi Rossi specialized in genre scenes in a social context, which made him appreciated, characterized not so much by a desire for an explicit social denunciation, but rather by a melancholy and nostalgia for a peasant world that has now disappeared. Furthermore, he also created landscapes and various portraits: his intense devotion to his family and particular attention to children translated in the early twentieth century into a sequence of portraits of his daughter, in different stages of life. This portrait of a young girl could also be part of this series, portraying her teenage daughter. The work is presented in a contemporary frame.

Portrait of Rossana Bossaglia 2009

Oil painting on canvas. Signature, date and title lower right. On the back there is the artist's handwritten writing "Portrait of Rossana Bossaglia with the background of Piazza Meda in Milan". This is the well-known Italian art historian and art critic Rossana Bossaglia (1925 -2013), who Edoardo Salvestrini places, according to his style, in an absolutely real city environment but evoked by his gaze, which although meticulous in its descriptive details , envelops what it describes in an atmosphere that smacks of the past, of historical distance, of memories drawn from memory. The work is presented in a frame.

Contenmporary Photo Exhibition of B. Aubertin 2010 Contemporary Art

Photograph. Autographed by Aubertin on the back. The shot was taken on the occasion of the performance "Fuoco controllato" performed by the artist on 27 November 2010 at the Milan premises of the Cooperativa Di Mano in Mano. It portrays the master as he creates one of his performances, carried out from the 1980s to the 1990s, in which he himself set fire to pianos or cars: these performances were born as a result of his interest in the element fire, considered the physical manifestation of the colour red, a colour that had already become central to his works since the 1960s. Aubertin is in fact considered the 'monochrome painter': from 1958 onwards he started to create his famous red monochrome canvases, the so-called Tableaux Feu (fire paintings), animating them with various elements, with nails (Tableaux Clous), iron wire (Tableaux Fil de Fer), matches (Parcours d'Allumettes) and various materials, from candles to iron nets. In his metaphysical conception of painting, through red he intended to transpose the energy of the soul, the spiritual being, onto the canvas. In the last years of his production, the red colour of the monochromes was replaced by white, black and gold, but Aubertin always worked on monochromes. The photograph is presented in a frame.

Watercolor on paper. Signed lower right. Giovanni Piancastelli was an eclectic artist, who created paintings, drawings, watercolors, engravings, also painting ceramics and tapestries with herbal juice. Highly esteemed by Roman aristocratic families, he was a drawing teacher for many of their children. In a short time he acquired a reputation as an expert in both art and architecture and, in particular, he became the art consultant and teacher of Marcantonio Borghese's children, at whose death he was responsible for reorganizing the family collection. He was director of the Borghese Gallery when it passed to the State, and became one of the greatest experts in drawings and prints, as well as one of the most important collectors of the time. The popular portrait presented here shows a street trombone player. The watercolor has several slight humidity stains. It is presented in a stylish frame.
