Painting by Antonio Possenti

Mighty in the garden

Oil on canvas cardboard. Signed lower center. The title on the back. In his pictorial production, the painter from Lucca Antonio Possenti resembles the painting of Marc Chagall, whom he met in 1957 on the French Riviera: his works are true "fabulous tales" generated by his dreamlike vision of reality, a vision that Possenti develops through careful observation of the “human comedy”. In this work he proposes a self-portrait, placed in a fantastic garden, animated by curious and abnormal animals, depicted with very lively color choices. The work is presented in a frame.

Paris

Oil painting on canvas. Signed lower right. Orfeo Tamburi was a multifaceted and prolific Italian artist. Designer, painter and journalist, he even tried his hand at acting (Roberto Rossellini's Envy). In his pictorial career, Tamburi investigated the expressive possibilities of the material and attempted to overcome the figurative-non-figurative antithesis. The figurative, present in his first production, is gradually abandoned in favor of a geometrization of reality, a flattening of forms which does not, however, preclude a notable expressive power. Recurring in his production are city views, often Parisian but not only, characterized precisely by the precise lines of the shapes of the houses but also of the windows (Tamburi has also been defined as the "painter of windows"), which contribute to emphasizing the geometric vision of the reality. The work is presented in a frame.

"A che punto siamo con i Fiori" 1991

Oil, acrylic and enamel on canvas. Signed and dated on the back of the canvas; also present on the frame are the title and descriptive label with details of the work. Concetto Pozzati was an eclectic artist: after his beginnings in the climate of Informal Art, the artist reworked the influences of international Pop Art in a personal key, always remaining tied to a simplified, ironic figuration with surrealist atmospheres. The work presented here can be traced back to Pozzati's artistic period of the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, characterised by a dense and fleshy painting that records the artist's interest in everyday objects and objects of affection; it belongs to the series entitled "A che punto siamo con i fiori", which proposes bouquets of flowers arranged in different ways, created with a mixed technique where different pictorial materials overlap to give material consistency to the painted elements. Framed.

Sunrise

Oil painting on canvas. Signed lower right. The title on the back. The work belongs to Franco Rognoni's second period, in which having recovered from the existential crisis that had distracted him from easel pictorial art, he resumed painting with forms inspired by a fantastic vision of life, supported by vivid colour. His painting, which appeared dark and tormented, becomes less obsessive, acquiring freer forms inspired by a fantastic vision, in which, as in this work, it is the sketched drawing with a few black lines that creates arabesques over the play of color of the background, evoking here the evocative atmosphere of a dawn. The work is presented in a frame.

Oil on canvas. Signed lower right. The work belongs to Franco Rognoni's second period, in which he recovered from the existential crisis that had distracted him from easel painting and resumed painting with forms inspired by a fantastic vision of life, supported by vivid colour. His painting, which had appeared dark, tormented, became less obsessive, acquiring freer forms inspired by a fantastic, often ironic vision. His vision of life shines through in this work, in this figure of a man leaning against the railing of a terrace overlooking the city, who seems impassive and indifferent, in his elegant suit surrounded by little flowers, while below him, on the lower left, another face (the same man?) wearing a helmet emerges, perhaps a reminder of his war, because it is set against a darker, less sunny city background. The painting style is Rognino's own, where the figures, both men and houses, are drawn in black with a few precise strokes, and then filled in with colour that fades into the background. The work is presented in a frame.

The White Courser

Oil on canvas. Signed lower right. Additional signature and title on the reverse. Accompanied by authentication on photograph signed by the artist. A self-taught Milanese artist, Giovan Francesco Gonzaga declared 'my true teacher is Nature', and faithful to it, he devoted himself mainly to scenes with horses (a passion he inherited from his experience in the Savoy Cavalry during the war) to landscapes and still lifes, always depicted 'en plein air'. Vittorio Sgarbi wrote of him: "Giovan Francesco Gonzaga's wisdom lies in his drawing, which is strong and decisive..... The images vibrate with restlessness, in the sign of man's struggle against himself, in the hell of a history that always seems to repeat the same drama. But if the preparatory drawing is admirable, this artist's colour has a royalty and sensitivity that come from a musical perception of colour, where the palette expresses itself in sudden, pulsating variations and rhythms". The work is presented in a frame.

Egidio Bonfante, painter and designer, carried out a long and important collaboration with Olivetti, as graphic designer for the company's magazines, advertising, stand and shop fitter and decorator. His painting production was initially linked to the New Front of the Arts movement, of a post-cubist matrix. He painted many foreshortenings and views, especially of Venice, using both oil and watercolour. Here a view of a sort of winter garden is shown, with a sitting area under a large glass window. Installation by Paolo Scirpa

Ludoscopio 1984

Installation with fluorescent tubes, with switch and timer, to create a tunnel effect. Paolo Scirpa, an artist of Syracuse origin but transplanted to Milan where he still lives, places light and space as true intangible and spectacular protagonists in his works. His intent is to represent "ideal" light, linked to a concept of "infinity" and for this reason he uses mirrors and light tubes. In the 1970s he began to create Ludoscopes, three-dimensional works which present an illusory perception of depth and which soon attracted the attention of many art and science scholars. The installation presented here is working. requires some restoration cleaning and touch-up of the casing.
